The net slowed down in Rangoon over the last three days coinciding with the visit of UN special envoy to Burma Mr. Ibrahim Gambari to the country. It was totally disrupted since this morning, internet cafe operators told Mizzima.
"The connection slowed down for a few days but it was accessible until last night. But it has totally stopped since this morning," an internet café owner said.
"We have never had such an experience before though the connection cannot usually access Gtalk and other email sites. In other internet shops, it was worse. In our shop, it has never been totally disconnected, but slows down to some extent. But today, it is totally disconnected," an owner of an internet café which has over 30 computers said.
"It is totally inaccessible today. The connection slowed down two to three days ago. But a few customers came and used our café though. But no customers came to our shop today given the total internet blackout," another shop owner said.
"We didn't lodge any complaint to the ISP over telephone. But we told our customers that we would inform them when the connection is restored," he added.
The ISP Myanmar Teleport didn't respond to customers' queries on the stoppage of their service.
The number of customers visiting the internet cafes have considerably dropped since the connection slowed down.
